born faint-hearted and
a realist under
stars.

seized beneath the
reckoning of itemized
accounts but not defeated

nonconcrete and
transcendental thoughts
pour over me like waves
of sleep induced delirium

and money doesn’t matter
because electric and the lights
are off and we pay bills
in shallow breaths.

Time to put the “Grim” back into the Grimm Brother’s Fairy Tales

Metal Gaia

ORIGINAL ARTICLE

Once upon a time a boy and his little brother were pretending to be a butcher and a pig. The older brother slices the younger’s throat, only to be stabbed in the heart by his enraged mother. Unfortunately, while she was stabbing her son, another one of her children drowns in a bath tub. So then she hangs herself. When dad gets home, he’s so depressed that he soon dies afterwords.

Now this might sound like the content of a death metal video, but this is actually one of the original tales from The Grimm’s Brother Fairy Tales. Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859), were German academics, linguists, cultural researchers, lexicographers and authors who together specialized in collecting and publishing folklore during the 19th century. They are particularly famous for tales such as “Cinderella,” “The Frog Prince,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Rapunzel” and “Snow White.”

Recently, Jack Zipes, a professor of…

It’s A Girl!

YAY❤️

Howling For Justice

wolf in woods kewl

It’s confirmed!  Move over OR7, another wolf is upstaging you. There’s a Northern Rockies female wolf roaming the Grand Canyon, the first wolf to do so since the 1940’s. She traveled 450 miles or more to get there.  Boy am I ever glad she escaped the wolf hell in Idaho and Montana. We don’t really  know which wolf population she’s from in the Rockies, because her collar is dead. But who cares, she made it. They can’t catch her (good, she’s wolf wary) and have suspended the search due to cold weather. They only identified her through her scat. The Grand Canyon is so vast and rugged, it’s one of the best places in all of America for a wolf, plenty of mule deer for her! What wonderful news to start the day.

Stay safe  beautiful girl. Maybe you’re traveling with a friend we haven’t seen, one can only hope!

Poetic Perspectives on Love

I can’t believe I’m included in this AWESOME group of poets! Thank you Ben❤️✨✨

The Midnight Writer

Last year I invited poets to write a few lines about love on my old blog. What is it and what does it mean? How can we unravel something so painfully elusive? This year I invited them back to reflect a year later: Helle Gade, Regina Puckett, and Poppy Ruth Silver.

But also, I invited more writers: Justin Bog, Tim Giles, Dan Leicht, Natasha Head, Chris McQueeney, Christopher G.J. Smith, Kim Stapf, Saket Suryesh, and Rob Zimmermann. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and opening your souls.

Additional thanks to those contributing last year whose poems I have reposted: Brock Gates, Amber Norrgard, Susie ClevengerSreya Bremtin.

Book Love and Shadows of the Realm

The Midnight Writer

I originally posted the first poem on my old blog in August 2013. It’s still one I think about from time to time. There’s something inherently magical about reading and books. I still feel lost in adventure when I open Narnia, Shadows of the Realm, Oz, or endless other works. And that brings me to the second poem I wrote for Dionne Lister’s fantasy series, Shadows of the Realm. There’s so much adventure and excitement within the pages of her work. Be sure and check it out on Amazon and Smashwords.

Book Love

Books are time machines.
Books are cars, and planes, and submarines.
Books are rocket ships and magic beans.
Books are goblins, dragons, kings, and queens.
Books are beating hearts and things unseen.
Books are marijuana and caffeine.

8 short stories: ” Far Away In Time by Maria Savva

I want to tell you something about every story, that would give to much away. I really enjoyed all the stories, the characters played their rolls well. In one story the author tells how important reviews are, wether it be for products, books, services etc. I’m partial to 2&3, they intertwine, just loved Mr Silverfrost, the plot was well thought out. Some stories made me sad, while some kept me on my toes, the greed in one story made me mad. A well written book of short stories. I would have liked the greed story to tell me how people reacted after the character, well read the story and see for yourself.
